Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026 · Effective immediately
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or accessing the Shutter desktop software application (“Shutter”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the software.
2. Nature of the Software
Shutter is a local utility program designed to help users catalog, index, and play their personal media collections stored across locally attached hard drives. Shutter does NOT supply, host, index, or link to any digital video, torrent files, pirated materials, or copyright-protected broadcasts.
3. User Responsibility & Content Ownership
You are solely and exclusively responsible for the content you scan, catalog, and play through Shutter. You agree not to use Shutter in any manner that infringes third-party intellectual property or violates applicable copyright legislation in your jurisdiction.
4. Disclaimer of Warranty
Shutter is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. While Shutter employs strictly read-only cataloging mechanisms, we cannot be held liable for any data loss, hardware failure, or filesystem corruption.
5. Third-Party Licenses
Shutter bundles and interoperates with open-source libraries under their respective permissive licenses, including Tauri (MIT/Apache 2.0), SQLite (Public Domain), mpv (LGPL), and FFmpeg/ffprobe (LGPL).
6. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms periodically. Notice of material revisions will be published on this website and in app update release notes.
